The Land Rover and Its Royal Connections

When we think about the English Royal family we can immediately think of items that have become synonymous with them. Firstly you will think about Corgi dogs, these dogs have been a part of the royal family since 1944 when the queen received her first pet. Secondly you are sure to think of Buckingham Palace, the official London residence of the Royal family.

Another trademark that has for many years been connected to the Windsor family is the Land Rover. The classic British car manufacturer which specialises in four wheel drive vehicles has been linked and photographed with royalty for many years. Due to the Land Rovers mix of power and reliability both the Royal family and their security teams use the models for work use.

Just this month the British car company based in Gaydon, Warwickshire has hit the headlines twice with regards to its royal connections.

Princess Anne's recently married daughter Zara Phillips has become the first person to receive the latest design in Land Rover the 'Evoque'. Being one of the first to order the Evoque it was only fitting that she received her vehicle at one of the most important equestrian events of the year, the Burghly Horse trials. The Sponsored event itself featured over sixty differing Land Rovers in action by organisers, with Zara even driving home in her five seat, 2.2 litre engine Land Rover afterwards.

The Range Rover Evoque will be released to the general public within the next week, meaning it will be available to be viewed in showrooms across the country in the very near future. A staggering amount of pre-orders have already been received across the world, some reports say over 20,000 with the UK receiving 6000 of them.

Recently married Royals the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge received a Land Rover as a wedding present and decided to donate it to charity this week. The charity that received the Land Rover was the 'Glossop Mountain Rescue Team' based in the Lake District. The charity was chosen at a ceremony in Clarence house with Prince Harry drawing the winner from a list of many prospective groups and charities.

The Mountain rescue group commented that their previous vehicle only had a six month shelf life which meant the new arrival was going to be a great help. Valued at over £45,000 the vehicle was a wonderful gift as the group were about to embark on a long fundraising campaign to raise enough money to replace their current vehicle. The Duke and Duchess, William and Kate asked well wishers to donate anything they could to their list of charities and unlike regular couples they were able to donate some fantastic items such as the vehicle instead of toasters and chip fryers!
